First-ever
compilation featuring Argentina's early folk music, preceding and paralleling
the tango, which came to represent that country's music for the rest of
the world. Early rural settings for this folk music moved to urban centres
(as did blues) and the artists represented here range from the former
(blind harpist Domingo Aguire, the legendary Gabino Eziza [died 1916!]
and other payador artists like Higinio Cazón and José Mariá
Silva) to famed tango singers like Agustín Magaldi and Charlo.
Some of the most beautiful solo and duet guitar music ever to come out
of South America are reflected here. A lengthy but varied musical experience,
with early sides of awesome rarity.
